Paraguay: Hope for the poor

Interview in "The IV World War ", Féile FM, Monday 6.30-7pm, with Michael Fox, freelance journalist based in Latin America.

He will joins us on the telephone from the Paraguayan capital, Asunción where he is reporting for Free Speech Radio News and Upside Down World.

In Paraguay, a former Catholic priest once known as the Bishop of the Poor has been elected president. Fernando Lugo will be the first Paraguayan president since 1946 not to be from the conservative Colorado Party. Lugo, influenced by the liberation theology, has pledged to crack down on corruption and channel Paraguay’s wealth into social programs. What can we expect then? is he another Chavez? or will he be another Lula just?
