Is the care of the earth a burning question for people of faith? Should it be? Does the Christian gospel speak to the crisis of climate change? Does loving God and ones neighbour call also for love and reverence of planet earth? Are Christians too heavenly minded to see the dangers threatening the beauty and balance of God’s creation?
Dr. Seán McDonagh SSC will address these questions at the Galway Diocesan Pastoral Centre next week as part of their public series for Lent on questions of theology, spirituality and Christian culture.
Seán is an Irish Columban missionary priest, an academic, and a world famous authority on the radical overlap between Christian theology and morality and the impending crises of climate change and eco-justice.
Seán has devoted his life to bringing ecological concerns to the centre of the Church’s mission and its work for justice. He the author of several books including: To Care for the Earth (1986), Greening the Christian Millennium (1999), Why are We Deaf to the Cry of the Earth? (2001), and The Death of Life: The Horror of Extinction (2005). His most recent book is Climate Change: The Challenge to All of Us (2007).
All are invited to this gathering on Tuesday 19th February at 8.00pm at the Galway Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Newtownsmith. There will be time for discussion after the presentation and refreshments will be served.
