The sentencing of Michael McKevitt, Justice or Stitch up?
Here is a report from the Supreme Court hearing, 12th Feb 2008
Michael McKevitt launched an appeal against his conviction of direction terrorism in the Supreme Court today claiming the informer, David Rupert, lacked credibility.
McKevitt’s defense team backed this up strongly exposing the lifelong criminal career of David Rupert. Hugh Hartnett, McKevitt’s barrister said “He was the lynchpin of the case”. He highlight that Rupert was involved in drug dealing, fraud and smuggling contraband across the Canadian border.
Hartnett went on to say “There was a coincidence of his being signed up by the FBI at the time he was being investigated for fraud. We were curious as to whether a deal had been done”.
The court was given an FBI file which reported a conversation with a state trooper from Rupert’s hometown and contained a string of crimes the so called “credible witness” was linked to.
