NO BUDGET DIG OUT FOR SOCIAL WELFARE

The only effect of the Budget will be to ingrain poverty for many families in Ireland because the rise in social Welfare payments has failed to match inflation and does nothing to further equality, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today. Joe Lynch from Ballinacurra Weston in Limerick the vice-chairman of the Munster RSF Executive said that there was “no dig-out” in the Budget for those on long term social welfare benefits.

Once again those who are wealthy have been given financial advantages while those on the lowest incomes have been left worse off, he said. The cost of a loaf of bread or a pint of milk is the same to all people yet this concept of equality is constantly ignored when it comes to the distribution of wealth in the Budget.

What is obvious is that the Dublin Administration has looked after the vested interests who support the main parties. In effect the Budget is a sophisticated “dig-out” for the construction industry with the ordinary people paying the price. It is a terrifying fact that one in six families in Ireland Live on yearly incomes way below the recent pay Award taken by politicians. Families with young children are expected to live on 25 thousand euro a year while the pay increase given to Ministers was over 38 thousand.
