Gas contractors go into liquidation

THE company contracted by Bord Gáis to lay the pipes for the new gas mains around Mayo has been appointed a provisional liquidator by the High Court – leaving many unwitting creditors in the county owed thousands of euros.
South Midland Construction, which trades as SMC, is based in Dublin and is one of Ireland’s largest civil engineering companies. They were awarded the contract to lay the gas mains around Mayo, which were due to go live before Christmas.
Company workers that were staying with him and was now out of pocket to the tune of €5,500.
“I know of one sub-contractor in the area who is owed up on €60,000 from the company.
