BOYCOTT the Citi Bar & Venue until they STOP USING SNAKES!
Hi,
Recently, one of our members alerted us to the fact that the Citi Bar & Venue is using live snakes as entertainment for people.
Through talks with the managers, I found out that this is a regular occurrence - they hire ''snake charmers'' a couple of nights a month for their ''flash''/''student'' nights.
Though it is obvious to us that snakes don't belong in busy nightclubs with people mauling them, the City Bar & Venue told me that they see nothing wrong with it (apparently, the snake charmers ''take really good care of their snakes''!), and plan on letting this form of ''entertainment'' continue.
Please write to or telephone the Citi Bar & Venue, and voice your objections about their display of cruelty:

but is there concern for the trafficking of women for sex-or the paedo ring that has (as usual) an
Irish connection [Denmark]
sure project your delicacies on the animals and dehumanise people whist you go...
Irish people don't do sex.
Droll Troll will be pleased to learn that the abolitionist approach to animal rights does indeed concern itself with the rights violations of trafficked human beings. Animal rights is about the rights of all animals and, obviously, that includes the human ones.
The ab approach to AR challenges the morality of assuming rightholders are or can be the property of human beings and would, therefore, oppose the rights violations inherent in human trafficking or holding snakes in nightclubs.
Philosopher Gary Francione clarifies his approach to rights here:-
http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/?p=15
You will note that the nightclub spokesperson responded with an animal welfare point when challenged about having a snake. This is because animal welfarism is the dominant paradigm in terms of assessments of human-nonhuman relations. An animal rightist challenges the nightclub on the grounds of rights violations not welfarist concerns about cruelty and, therefore, it is a rights violation to hold a snake in a nightclub whether she was treated well or otherwise.
It should also be said that many will react with humour or irritation at attempts to stop snakes being used in nightclubs since these very same people will be happily digesting parts of nonhuman animals and many will also be clothed in the skins of others. Many visiting the nighclub are likely to have submitted to the current fashion of buying snakeskin shoes and other items, so the plight of the snakes will not impress them too much. Until we can do something about the power and influence of cultural speciesism, nonhumans are ever liable to find themselves held prisoner for human entertainment purposes.
Well said rogy.
Taking issue with wealth indicators such as the tastelessness of the Irish who may like
wearing dead things to show their money is wholly different from fighting the rights of
an animal that may have a trafficked individual attached to its arse end. Look at the whole picture
and despite the link and the barbs, I am not convinced that personal reprehension at
what celtic tigers wear and consume is balnced with rights, cos someone is floating a
trafficking industry through our country and no-one is carrying placards on women and children's
rights.
yep! well said Rogy- would be nice to see a few girlies with anti-human trafficking signs at
your protests too is all am saying.
When droll troll and bubble and squeak start carrying placards to support women's and children's rights, no-one, I hope, will accuse them of ignoring the welfare of non-human animals.
Its so sad to see silly sots still using snakes sans concern.
Power to the snakes!
I am outraged to hear that people want to boycott citi bar for using snakes. A false picture has been portrayed, incinuating that random snakes are brought in for the snake charmer to use as entertainment. The snake charmer OWNS the snakes, I know her well and have worked with her and the snakes. She is extremely experienced with snakes. She owns approximately 15 snakes and they are her babies. She loves her snakes and her whole life is dedicated to them. She has two pythons that she uses. She brings the snake into the club and walks around with it and lets people take photographs of it. She is very protective of her snakes and does not let anyone touch them and she warns everyone not to go near the head. The snake is quite content being in crowds. I have handled the snakes and they are very placid especially in comparison to other snakes Iv handled. For instance, I handled a very agitated snake in Wackers pet shop...he nearly tried to constrict me. The snakes in that pet shop actuall bite, that is not a sign that they are being handled with care...boycott Wackers! However, the citi bar snakes are quite friendly.

Snakes in clubs? nothing wrong with it...
To whatever "brightspark" wrote the initial message about it being cruel, do you have any knowledge on snakes at all? Snakes are deaf firstly, they would hear nothing in the club unless placed on the ground where the vibrations would be felt, also just cause they feel vibrations, the vibrations rarely affect them.... Also they have very poor sight, based mainly on movement.....so movement doesn't fighten them....also....did you bother to ask what type of snake it is??? Certain snakes, Burmese pythons especially are used as "dog type" animals in thailand and other parts of tropical asia.....they have a dog like temperment. If they are angry or pissed off they give ample warning. Someone who is used to snakes such as the charmer you are referring to knows this......and I'm sure she is experienced
Ignorance from tree hugging people such as yourself is pathetic.....performances such as these have been going on for thousands of years.....
I suggest, next time before getting finger happy on the keyboard and giving out, you approach the charmer and ask her questions of relevance, such as what makes the snake nervous? HOw do you know if he or she is angry/stressed? Is it eating correctly? How is it looked after? etc etc etc....
People like yourself who need to complain about EVERYTHING, yet have no basis for it are a pain and making life difficult for your own selfishness....
Snakes should not be used in clubs or in any environment unless with someone who understands them and own there own animals....renting snakes for random girls to use however is poor practice and unsafe....and over 100foot there should be two handlers....which I know there is in citibar...
so do some homework before opening your gob again.....
