Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace

As part of the RCPI’s annual programme of public meetings on health issues – Promoting a Healthy Nation – the Faculty of Occupational Medicine is organising a meeting on bullying and harassment in the context of employment and mental health.
Date: Wednesday 19th September 2007
Time: 6:00 pm
Venue: RCPI, 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2

This problem is highly prevalent in the modern workplace, and the aim of the meeting is to discuss the significant human and economic cost to modern business associated with this difficult and challenging problem, and to advocate the health of people at work.

Ms. Gillian Bowler, Chairman, Irish Life and Permanent plc will chair the meeting and the speakers include: Dr. John McDermott, Occupational Physician, who will outline some facts on the prevalence of the problem in different workplaces and give a brief case history; Dr. Abbie Lane, Psychiatrist, who will outline the kinds of illnesses which can contribute to and result from bullying and harassment; and Mr. Geoffrey Corry, Mediator, who has extensive experience in working with people in the workplace to resolve interpersonal conflict in a way that facilitates positive outcomes for all involved.

The meeting is open to all members of the public and there is no charge for attendance.
