This year marks the 300th anniversary of the occupation of the Catalan Countries by the Spanish State following the battle of Almansa in 1707. This date cannot be easily forgotten as both the national and social oppression by the Spanish State over the Catalan Countries still continues.
Likewise, we can not forget one part of our country, Northern Catalonia, which has been occupied for more than 300 years by the French State.
In spite of the historical significance of 2007 our country’s occupation was not completed until 1715 when Mallorca fell. The Catalan Countries’ occupation lasted so long due to the wave of popular resistance.
We find evidence of that resistance in the continuation to date of the independentist movement which, in spite of years of torture, war, dictatorship, imprisonment and exile, has stood firmly against Spanish occupation challenging the economical and socio-political order established upon the Catalan people.
This is why we celebrate the “300 years of occupation- 300 years of resistance” campaign. We invite all organisations to keep on defending our language and our culture from Spanish bullying impositions. We invite all associations which work daily to transmit the historical truth lived within the Catalan Countries. We invite all the people who want take a stand to end with 300 years of occupation to participate in showing our refusal to this economical and national colonization. We won’t be silenced in front of the injustices committed against our people. We shall only stop when we are free!
300 Years of Occupation - 300 Years of Resistance!

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Sant Jordi is the Catalan original of the English, Portuguese and Georgian patron saints. Jordi was a Catalan who saved his people & prettiest females from a Dragon by killing it. To mark this Catalans exchange books and roses with a sheaf of wheat attached on the 23rd of April every year. The Dragon may be ignorance or may be something else. L. Ron Hubbard the founder of scientology thought it was a martian representative of the galactic empire whose space base in the Pyrennes was succesfully destroyed by pre-Catalan neanderthals. You'd normally have to be a scientologist for 12 years to learn that or at least at the level of Tom Cruise or John Travolta. Over the centuries notably under the famous Catalan architect Gaudi the came to be used as a symbol of the Catalan people themselves. Neither Tom Cruise nor John Travolta are Catalans.
Today's modern Catalan in between struggling against Castilian oppression finds time to enjoy the highest standard of living on the Mediterranean coast and the longest life expectancy. in Europe. But they do get a lot of cold-sores & pay for most of Spain's roads and health clinics, not because of active oppression but simply because the Catalan is a spirited generous type. Remember that should you come and visit & give a Catalan a peto . The modern Catalan nation aside from its police forces counts on 360,000+ privately held licensed hand-guns yet has never had a campus shooting. Estimates vary on the number or type of illegal arms held by the Catalanders but the last piece of interest was a heavy machine gun dug up out of a squat. The fact that this relic had never been used is proof that the Catalander anarchist is either very pacifist or it's difficult to score heavy machine gun ammunition.
Happy Sant Jordi's day.
Catalonia is not Spain.
(but they do speak Spanish, very badly it must be said, but they do speak it. to foreigners only. visca els guirris)
Read a Book. Don't believe everything in it. Just read it. Don't go joining a cult after reading just one book or the whole series by one author. "Broaden your horizons"
feliç sant jordi! llibertat! pa amb tomaquet! castellers! barça! barça! barça! un abraç molt fort per a tots els catalans i totes les catalanes!
This week has seen concentrated international efforts to keep things peaceful on all dimensional fronts as the descendents of the Catalan empire which was lost in the wars between 1707 and the 11th of September 2014 do their resistance thing..... Accordingly the Dalai Lama met local political leaders including the chief of the police on the tenth and on the 11th met a representative of the majority faith Roman Catholics church (who did the Pinochet thing remember pinochet.). But the cause of Catalan independence hard core tough nut type story continues. Nonetheless. When Juan Carlos Bourbon attended the opening of the Science Technology research park & alien stemcell hybrid nazi super jesus clones factory in Girona yesterday, hundreds of patriotic Gironese burnt his picture and that of his wiggy predecessor who took away their rights. According to them he is not a scientist nor a bovine experimenting dirty fee fo fum Englishman but as the Mary McAleese ranking Spaniard he's still cutting their ribbons. They're obviously unhappy. "Spain is not Catalonia"!
They chanted "catalans don't have a king!" and word on the street indicated they're having problems posting letters & buying stamps because his flag and photo are in the mail offices. King Juan Carlos was not available for comment because it wasn't a coup and under the Castillian empire he's not allowed to say anything about Catalans and they're not allowed burn his photo. Temperatures are obviously very high though in the off the cuff sort of briefing between people in the know. Nonetheless.
They 've a really clear idea of it all as you can see. & they speak English too.
