Campaign Against EU Constitution - Alternatives to neoliberalism
PUBLIC MEETING
Thursday April 19 at 19.00
The Ireland Institute, 27 Pearse St, Dublin

Alternatives to neoliberalism in Europe.
Harry van Bommel – MP for the Socialist Party in the Dutch Parliament - see link
Carol Fox – Peace and Neutrality Alliance.

The Dutch Socialist Party campaigned for a ‘No’ vote, from a socialist perspective,
in the referendum on the EU Constitution in the Netherlands – and won.

On foot of this, they won 25 seats in the subsequent elections to the Dutch parliament
and now rank as the leading opposition party according to recent opinion polls.

Harry van Bommel is their spokesperson on European affairs. He will speak on the current attempts to revive the Constitution; and on alternatives to neoliberalism in Europe.

He is opposed to current attempts to revive the now "dead" constitution. He thinks that the left should play a leading role is explaining the benefits and threats of the EU. He also thinks the Irish government should not participate in attempts to impose the EU Constitution on people who have voted against it.

Carol Fox will speak about the militarisation of the EU; and about an opinion poll commissioned by PANA on attitudes amongst the Irish people to our government continuing to allow the US military to use Shannon.

There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
