North American author and practicing physician Dr. Susan Rosenthal argues in her latest book ‘Power and Powerlessness’ that there is an identifiable connection between mental illness and the type of market led economy currently found in many industrialized countries including Ireland of the Celtic Tiger.
“Social power”, she writes, “is necessary for human health”. Dr Rosenthal claims that, “…most people lack the healthy, fulfilling lives they deserve because they are kept powerless and mistakenly accept this state of affairs as natural or self-inflicted.”
