The Sunday Business Post has done a lovely PR job for Shell.
An anonymous reporter for the Sunday Business Post has written an article with some very shady claims and misleading speculations.
One gets the following impressions from the article:
i. The Gas taken from the Corrib field by Shell will be an indigenous product and remain thus.
ii. That Shell decided to re-route the pipeline due to the Cassells Report. This is blatantly untrue. The re-routing happened for two reasons. Shell claimed in Court that they were re-routing because of the protests. Secondly they are re-routing, so that they may withdraw from court proceedings and so that the legality of Compulsary Acquisition Orders (CAO's) cannot be challenged if they no longer exist.
iii. It is implied that half of the electrical generating stations in Ireland are fuelled by Natural Gas.
iv. They quote from the Cassells Report and go along with the idea that Ireland will be guaranteed a 'security of supply,' of natural gas when shortages eventually begin to occur. This belies the arguments at the heart of capitalism - bottom line profit defines the market and the customer, not the birthplace of the product. I.e. Whomsoever can afford to pay the most will get the product.
