Has Nintendo gone woke? That's the fear among gamers as the new Switch 2 is released. Maybe not, says Steven Tucker ? but the underlying code, with its 'inclusive language guidance', is another matter.

Attorney General Lord Hermer ? who was last week accused of likening ECHR-sceptics to Nazis ? seems to think 'Schmitt' is a polite way of saying 'Hitler'. He obviously has not read Schmitt, says Professor James Alexander.

Audio: Syndicalism in Ireland

category national | history and heritage | opinion/analysis author Monday March 12, 2007 14:55author by Joe - WSM Report this post to the editors

From 2007 Anarchist bookfair

“Although the years from 1917 to 1923 constitute one of the least neglected segments of labour’s chronology, syndicalism remains the most underestimated and misrepresented ideology ever associated with Irish trade unionism”

Audio from the 2nd Dublin anarchist bookfair of Emmet O'Connors talk and the discussion that followed it.

Emmet O'Connor is Senior Lecturer in History at Magee College, University of Ulster and author of Syndicalism in Ireland, 1917-1923 Cork University Press (January 1988)

He is also the author of

James Larkin
In general, labour historians have been kind to Larkin and his style of leadership, which was often abrasive and dictatorial, has often been portrayed as a form of improvisation engendered by contemporary exigencies. In this important new biography of Larkin leading labour historian Emmet O'Connor radically reassesses the man and asks whether he should be viewed as a "hero" of the working class, or as a "wrecker" whose difficult personality was detrimental to both trade unionism and an emerging Irish communist movement.

Reds and The Green
Based on former Soviet archives, Reds and the Green shows why Irish Marxists and republicans turned repeatedly to Russia for support and inspiration, what Moscow wanted from Ireland, and how the Comintern was able to direct an Irish political party.
