The Lansdowne Research Poll carried out for Prime Time and the Irish Independent highlighted the growing radicalism among the 40,000 Irish Muslims in Ireland. This Poll found that:

o 20% of Muslims think Ireland could harbour dissidents
o 57% of young Muslims want to see Ireland become an Islamic state
o 36% of all Muslims (over 14,000) want Sharia law introduced in
Ireland.
o 19% of Muslims said they "respect" al-Qa'ida terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden .

In light of this Poll's findings, this Debate is timely as it will
address these key issues.

What the report does say:-
"Overall, the Muslim community in Ireland appear to feel well integrated and accepted by society and to have a postive view of Irish democracy and diversity."

"...most Muslims living in Ireland appear very moderate in their views, with the majority not minding intermarriage with Catholics and many believing children of mixed marriages should be raised in both religions or neither. The majority also believe that Muslim children should not go to only Muslims schools. In addition, more claim to respect Tony Blair than figures like Osama Bin Laden."
