TWIN IFC EVENTS: Bloody Sunday Commemorations in Boston, Albuquerque
Tuesday January 30, 2007
------------------------------
In twin events in Boston and Albuquerque on Tuesday January 30, 2007,
the Irish Freedom Committee remembered the Bloody Sunday
massacre of fourteen innocent civilians by British security forces
thirty-five years ago in Derry, Ireland.
In BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS, the Kerins/O'Neill Cumann of the IFC held
a commemoration from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM at the historic Plough
and Stars Pub in Cambridge, with speakers giving readings on the
history of the Civil Rights march and British Army massacre, and
musical entertainment by a variety of performers including New York
Irish singer/songwriter John Gilligan, Boston musician Pete Cassani
(The Peasants), and Celtic band Erin Og.
In ALBUQUERQUE NEW MEXICO, the Ronan MacLochlainn Cumann presented
three screenings of the feature film "Bloody Sunday", which powerfully
and accurately recreates minute-to-minute details of the British Army
massacre and cover-up. The screenings were held at Albuquerque's
famed Guild Cinema at 4:30 PM, 6:45 PM and 9:15 PM, with a question
and answer session following the 6:45 showing. There was a benefit raffle for POW crafts
with all proceeds going directly to the families of Irish Republican
POWs being held in English and Irish Free State prisons.
