SOLIDARITY WITH BASQUE POLITICAL PRISONER ON HUNGER STRIKE
Inaki De Juana has already been for 47 days on hunger strike to ask for his inmediate release and the end of the prison extermination policy carried out by the Spanish and French states against the 700 Basque poIitical prisoners.
Inaki de Juana should have been released on October 2004 but is been ilegally kept in jail since. In order to prevent his release the Spanish government made up new charges against him and requested 96 years for two opinion articles he published in the newspaper Gara. Against this attack Inaki fasted for 63 days until his trial came up last October. He went off when he was promised he wouldn't have to stay in prison but the when sentence was launched he was betrayed. In fact he was sentenced to 12 years.
Therefore the only tool he was left was going back to hunger strike. On Saturday 23rd of December he will be on his 47th day of hunger strike. The doctors at the hospital where he's kept tied and force fed against his will warned the family one week ago that he could die at any moment.
Urgent action is needed. The Belfast Basque Committee is calling a picket line at the Whiterock Roundabout, Falls Road, West Belfast on Saturday 23rd of December at 1pm.
