The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, which has won many awards,
is about the April 2002 Venezuelan coup attempt which briefly deposed Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez .
No better time than now to see, or see again, this film. Chávez has
just won the election again. Many of the same
social movements are in action and they face the same line-up of people
determined to crush them
A television crew from RTE happened to be recording a documentary about
Chávez during the events of April 11, 2002. They followed the events as they occurred. During
their filming, the crew recorded images of the events and their film counters all the claims of the
Chávez opposition, the private media and the US State
Department which all tried to discredit Chávez and the social movements. The
documentary says that the coup was the result of a conspiracy between
various old guard and anti-Chávez factions within Venezuela and the United States. The film gives a very vivid account of what a massive social upheaval feels like and the actual playing out of contending political forces in this most revolutionary of continents.
