The Law is an Ass, by Philip Ruddock

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Saturday September 09, 2006 12:38author by budgie

Philip Ruddock, Australian Attorney General, announced today that a broader range of people in the Australian community (non-Muslims) are to be targeted as “terrorists!” Ruddock also stated that persons who are not ‘terrorists’ need not be alarmed as his new wider classification should not concern ‘them’(?)

Australian citizens are left to conclude that the determination of who exactly is a terrorist has become an arbitrary prerogative of the Attorney General and his gang of enforcers! Whatever happened to due process, innocent until PROVEN guilty? {God help that journalist who stepped on Ruddock’s toe, he will be the first to go!) It is not coincidental that the Bush regime also found due process to be an inconvenience. Ruddock’s logic and methods reek of neo-con methods, Guantanamo (Torture) Bay and Bush regime criminal methodologies have found expression in Oz.

There are many types of extremist political groups such as -
Islamic groups that want to maked society Islamic
Christian groups who want all society to become Christian
Socialists who want to end capitalism and establish a perfectly communal society.
Eco groups who want to humanity to return to primitive tribal hunter gatherer societies.

In a free society such groups have the right to associate, speak or publish their views.
They have nothing to fear as long as they respect the democratic system.
Before their ideology is adopted as the legitimate authority in society they must first be elected as the majority political grouping the parliament or congress.
If groups like these use force - either armed rebellion or sporadic and indiscriminate violence using bombings or shootings or hostage taking or threatening the use of WMD then they are terror groups and their members are terrorists.

I wont get started on Bush. This will be a very short comment.

Majorities are a strange phenomena.

If one were to act on the will expressed by the majority vote in this country, not a singular arse that currently buffs a seat in Leinster House would even be allowed inside the doors.

The majority of voters in this country, consistantly refuse to exercise their votes. This was highlighted even more than ever recently with the voting register scandal.

Representation in the Dail is based on the proportion the parties recieved of the registered voters who voted. The government is formed from the parties with the majority stake in the number of votes.

Would you rather than a group of self appointed thugs with no electoral mandate was in power?
