Haaretz report that "Europe nixes landing rights for El Al planes with IDF cargo"
According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, "A number of European states are refusing to allow El Al cargo planes carrying Israel Defense Forces equipment from stopover landings in their airports.
The refusal came from states considered friendly with Israel, including Britain, Germany and Italy, according to Captain Etai Regev, the chairman of El Al's pilots' union."
Over the past few weks the UK was taken to court by the ISlamic Human Rights Commission which accused the state of participation in war crimes by allowing the transfer through Scotland of weapons from the USA to Israel for the IDF to deploy in Lebanon. Although leave to a judicial review was denied in that case (Leave denied to judicially review British government’s assistance with military shipments to Israel, Press Release 23rd August, http://www.ihrc.org/) the developments as noted in HAaretz shoudl be encouraged and used to ensure that the Irish State adopts a similar policy, not only re Israel but all states engaged in ongoing war crimes.
