category dublin | environment | event notice author Friday September 01, 2006 20:05author by Friends of the Earth

Wednesday 6th September at 7pm in Cineworld, Parnell St, Dublin

A special screening of An Inconvenient Truth presented by UIP / Paramount Vantage in association with Friends of the Earth. There will a short introductory talk by Frank McDonald, Environment Editor of the Irish Times and the film will be followed by a wine reception. All proceeds go to support Friends of the Earth’s climate work. Tickets are just 10 euro and can be booked online now at http://www.foe.ie.

Described by Empire film magazine as "powerful, intelligent and entertaining", the movie wowed audiences at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and went on to reach the US Box Office Top 10 on its release in May. With passion, vision and surprising humour, Al Gore makes the case for treating climate change as "the biggest moral challenge facing our global civilization" and traces his own 20 year fascination with the issue.

Commenting on the event Friends of the Earth Director, Oisin Coghlan, said
"Friends of the Earth is delighted to be able to offer people the chance to see An Inconvenient Truth. It's just a a pity we can't show it to the Fianna Fail parliamentary party who will be discussing energy policy in Wesport that day. The movie is very timely as the Government is promising a new Climate Change Strategy in the next few months. If every Minister and TD saw this movie, not to mention every voter, politicians might finally begin to take climate change seriously".

The Government is running a public consultation on climate policy until the end of September and Friends of the Earth is encouraging movie goers to have their say at http://www.climatepeldge.ie where they can pledge to change one thing in their own lives to reduce pollution and ask the government to do one thing in return.

An Inconvenient Truth goes on release in Dublin on 15th September and in Limerick, Galway, Cork and Belfast on 22nd September.
