On Feb 3rd. 2003, the Pit Stop Ploughshares 5 carried out an act of nonviolent disarmament on a U.S. Navy War plane at Shannon Airport. In July '06, the five Catholic Workers were found not guilty of "US2.5million criminal damage without lawful excuse" by the unanimous verdict of a jury - the conscience of the commuity - at Dublin's Four Courts.
The Irish government has no popular mandate to provide a pit stop for the U.S. war machine en route to the illegal invasion of Iraq. The popular mandate is to demilitarise Shannon Airport. The Catholic Worker and friends are exploring nonviolent and direct means to bring that mandate back to Shannon Airport. See link below......
