Sunday Independent carries adverts for US military services company
Today's Sunday Independent carries two advertisements seeking to recruit Irish people to work as Sales Representatives for a company, apparently called 'Exchange', whose sole function is to sell cars, motorbikes and utility vehicles to US military personnel serving abroad. These particular adverts are looking for people to service the US war machine in Iraq, Kuwait and the Middle East in general. Those employed will be based on US military facilities in Iraq and Kuwait.
Prospective applicants are directed to a website, which carries the company motto:
'The only overseas car-buying program created by the [US] military, for the military'.
It is a disgrace that an Irish newspaper is carrying advertisements recruiting civilians to service the US war machine in Iraq. Those who consider applying should bear in mind that they will be viewed in Iraq as servants of the US military and their lives will be at grave risk. Holding Irish citizenship will make no difference.
The main content of the advertisement is as follows:
"SALES REPRESENTATIVES
Middle East/Iraq/Kuwait
We are seeking enthusiastic career minded people to join our expanding operations in the Middle East selling new cars, trucks and motorcycles on US military installations to American Service members."
Applicants are directed to a website for online forms and it is mentioned that Iraq is a 'tax-free region'.
An Irish mobile phone number is also given - 086 8656544 - and it is stated that interviews will be conducted in Dublin between 18 and 25 July.
