Stop the Assault on Gaza: National demonstration
2pm Sat 8 July Central Bank, Dame St.
Called by The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Over the past week Israel has lauched a brutal invasion of Gaza entitled "Operation Summer Rain".
F16 Israeli jets have destroyed bridges and major highways.
Apache helicopters destroyed Gaza's main power plant which also drives water pumps. So 75% of the electricity supply and much of the water supply have been cut off since Wednesday!
Dozens of democratically-elected ministers and civil and political leaders have been arrested.
Government and public buildings have been bombed, including the Ministry of the Interior and the Islamic University.
Agricultural fields are being bombed and even football pitches! The aircraft also emit terrifying 'sonic booms'.
Israeli artillery units have kept up a continuous bombardment from the outskirts of Gaza City.
There were already sever shortages of food, medicines and essential supplies in Gaza because of the sanctions imposed since February on the democratically-elected Palestinian government. Israel has now sealed the border so a humanitarian catastrophe is now imminent!
This murderous assault on Palestinians cames after Hamas and Fatah had come to an agreement that would have opened the way to negotiations with Isael on the basis on the 1967 borders. Clearly Israel wants not only to tell the Palestinians who may represent them, but it also wants to wreck any chance of peace. We must raise our voices.
80 people demonstrated at short notice at the Israeli Embassy last night. We need greater numbers to turn up this Saturday and show our empty politicians that Irish people are opposed to this murderous assault on the people of Gaza.
We are also asking friends in the broad anti-war movement to support the Pitstop Ploughshares in their retrial which begins tomorrow (July 5th).

Israeli war crimes in the Gaza strip are ongoing. Its clear from the outset that they are not going to stop their war crimes either. If politicians are not going to act, then people must. The fruits of Israeli oppression are on sale in Irish shops. If people don't buy them, then it will hurt the Israeli's where it matters most to them- in their pockets.

This is as much a national anti-war march as those held in the past over Iraq and Afghanistan, and it should be supported accordingly by anti-war activists. It is very important that there is a good turnout tomorrow.
