With all due respect 12.30 pm on a Sunday is not an ideal time to hold a meeting. I fear that the turnout wont be that great. Some people who are involved in campaigns tend to spend Sundays with their families. Not everyone can be involved 100% of the time.
During the co-ordination meeting in the ATG Hall, following the end of the hunger strike, a number of activists who had actively supported the Afghani comrades, raised the issue that what was needed was a full Conference on Racism + Immigration to share information and begin building the basis of a co-ordinated strategy against incipient and/or ideologically coherent racism.
Wondering whether this meeting proposed by RAR next Sunday is the starting point.....
Michael, it is just a starting point. It is not a meeting where everything will be discussed and sorted. The problems will not be addressed by just one meeting, I wish things were that simple.
Please stay away from this thread if at all possible. Your very presence makes it difficult/impossible to have a rational debate. You seem to want to dominate every organisation that exists. You are passing yourself off as a leader of the IAWM and AWN as it is.
As you are well aware the SWP leadership hate the RAR and the SWP consistently boycotted RAR protests prior to the Cathedral. Even at the Cathedral, using you as a catspaw, the SWP/IAWM tried to marginalise RAR. When the IAWM/SWP advertised the final Saturday rally at the Cathedral the only name on the posters was that of the IAWM. A blatant attempt by the IAWM/SWP to make it look as if they were responsible for the protests at the Cathedral. The SWP/IAWM press releases pushed RBB rather than the Afghans. This shows how concerned the IAWM/SWP are in building a representative united campaign.
Sundays meeting hopefully should build a bigger RAR. I am not interested in participating in a meeting which is packed by IAWM/SWP members whose only purpose in being present is to destroy RAR and set up some new organisation which RBB will become Chair of (along with the 20 other campaigns he chairs).
Will there be any actual immigrants there?
Residents Against Racism decide to hold a public meeting. They invite everyone who wishes to attend. What response does it get here? Some anonymista declaring that not only should the SWP not come, but people who work with the SWP on other issues shouldn't come either. What a helpful attitude.
You misunderstand me or maybe you don't know what Michael Y is like. The SWP using their IAWM front tried to do RAR down at the Cathedral. Michael Y was central to this skullduggery and I have written about the IAWM posters above. Thats why I am suspicious of Michael Y and the IAWM/SWP. They want to set up a new front which they will be able to dominate. I hope that SP and SY members attend Sundays meeting to make sure that this does not happen.
Me an anonymista? I have seen too many people showered with personal abuse when they dare to even disagree with the SWP on Indymedia. Thats why I dont use my name. You dont use your full name either.
Thank you to MarkG and MarkP for the comments.
As for the careful but still anonymous activist, I hope you turn up to the meeting because the issue is important. The rest will work out in the meeting itself I hope - suspicions and all the rest.
Can imigrants join RAR ? Will they be allowed go the meeting ?
Can imigrants join RAR ? Will they be allowed go the meeting ?
Of course they can.
Most of RAR's members are immigrants
