Adams and Ó Broin To Speak

The political legacy of James Connolly is to be marked this weekend (12 – 14 May) with a number of events taking place around the famous revolutionarie’s former home on Belfast’s Falls Road.

Organised by Sinn Féin’s newly re-established Trade Union Department, the events are open to everybody interested in honouring the life of James Connolly – socialist, republican, trade unionist and writer.

Thursday May 11 – 7.30pm: The James Connolly Debating Society will be hosting a debate in the Felons’ Club on the issue of republicanism and electoralism

Friday May 12 – 7.00pm: The plaque at Connolly’s former residence (facing the main entrance to the City Cemetery) is to be rededicated with the head of Sinn Féin’s European Department and editor of Left Republican Review, Eoin Ó Broin, giving the oration. A short lyrical and musical pageant will follow.

Sunday May 14 – 2.30pm: Sinn Féin president, Gerry Adams, is to unveil a new mural in Connolly’s honour at the bottom of Rockmount Street.
