I might not have learnt anything about Art history, Peig or Geology, but I did get a ground work on auld fellah's throwing things. I believe the man is wearing a popular anti-GM food T-Shirt, Pat- ( & all others ) This might suggest he's sort of a greenie and not an anarchist or black block as many seem to be presuming.
I also am prepared to put forward the suggestion (based on long experience of observing such things) that he's throwing the handset of a public telephone. Generally public telephones get smashed up at this type of thing and the handsets are great for throwing.

i take my hat off to the auld guy throwing the object (under magnification it looks as if it could be some electronic gear?). he has an interestying choice of t-shirt as well. under magnification it is clearly revealed to be the frankenstein monster. could there be a new dadaist international?

Though geology Leaving Certificate classes weren't that good during the The Troubles, I'd hesitate a guess that the speciment pictured above is igneous with high ferrous content. Its the sort of rock we might find on Mars or up Howth head. Unfortuanately we don't have any clue (by this otherwise very talented photo-journalist) as to the scale of the rock. It might be a pebble but photo'ed with a zoom lense "really close up". Or indeed it might be only a little less grand than sacred Uluru or "Ayer's rock". This is why it is important for really good photo-journalists and indeed plenipoteniaries of the nation to include some size reference. Perhaps Ms P. Geraghty could consider carrying a ruler with her in future, or at least consider that if she had been strong enough to move said specimen closer to a road line (whilst of couse using latex gloves for caution's sake) we wouldn't face the problem now :- "how much of a threat did the ignous ferric rock pose?"

& then we'd appreciate the scale of Athens #3 and the forces which caused that auld fellah to go raj / beserk / wrathful instead of just growing a Marx-ish beard or being content to wag his finger.

best regards Paula from Iosaf. I hope you write up a report when you get back to the Irish state. & Your photos are very very very very good.
