Product: Israeli Potatoes.

This time of year sees an influx of Israeli potatoes to the shelves of
supermarkets in Ireland.

We think of the common potato or 'spud' as being part of Irish history. We may
imagine that all potatoes sold in Irish shops are grown in Ireland. However,
many Irish shops and supermarkets, including Dunnes Stores, Tesco and Marks &
Spencer sell Israeli Potatoes, rather than Irish 'spuds'. The profits from, and
taxes imposed on, these goods help Israel to maintain and expand its 38-year old
illegal occupation of Palestine.

Particularly common are the variety known as ‘baby potatoes’ – often nicely
packaged in a container or in a tasty garlic butter.
But ethical consumers, concerned with acting where governments fail to act,
should opt for other varieties of baby potatoes instead – there is a range of
other products to chose from.

*Other Israeli goods commonly sold in Ireland include Jaffa Oranges and Carmel
fruit. Israeli herbs such as Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Basil, and
Coriander are also commonly sold here. *
