This BBC World Service magazine programme called Outlook, is soft news normally, but at the end of this interview, the police diver lets it be known that he has lately been finding many mutilated corpses in the River Tigris.

Ali Khalaf is the diver who was broadcast via phone and translator on the BBC World Service, Friday, November 25th, 2005.

"…today it’s so normal for me to find bodies. If I had the duty I’d just go and do it; and it doesn’t worry me at all. Me and my colleagues, we even compete over who is going to go and getteth.

Now, most of the bodies we collect from the river are people who’ve been tortured. We find people with amputated limbs and gauged out eyes. We don’t know who’s done it, but the bodies have signs of torture; that’s for sure.

The Work is tough, but I’m determined to continue…"
