Well thank god rte finally got up off their arses and asked some probing questions
Primetime finally did a piece on Rossport and Shell last night.
They interviewed Sean Harrington in Rossport but strangely none of the families?
Perhaps the families are so sick of the pathetic, biased coverage rte have given the story that they dont want their words twisted round yet again.
There was a report from Rossport with interviews with Mark Caragy and then back to studio where Mark Garavan put points to Andy Pyle who in turn lied as is the Shell way.
"We are developping Ireland's gas" said Pyle which made it sound like Shell were doing the Irish a big favour. He didnt mention that Shell were actually robbing Irelands gas (aided by the convicted criminal Ray Burke). Then he continued on his fantasy analysis by saying it was part of a policy of "attracting inward investment" in Ireland (Bertie pimping the country)
Does "attracting inward investment" now mean "getting big multinationals to rob us blind"?
Its seems to be.
Mark Garavan pointed out that most of the points and the picture Pyle was creating was fantasy.
Mark Little then interviewed Dempsey who said at one stage that off shore is more dangerous and that he was concerned about the rig workers.
- WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT!!!
It was really clear here how Dempsey doesnt give a shit about the people of Mayo and their safety. He is more worried about foreign Rig workers than woman and children who are Irish citizens.
It was put to Dempsey that Shell hadnt proved to be very reliable or trustworthy and that Shell's breach of contract was not discovered by Dempsey's dept but by the locals and then reported in newspapers.
Dempsey looked uncomfortable and didnt produce credible reassurances when Mark Little put it to him that his Dept's previous monitoring had failed and that there was a serious doubt over the credibility of Shell's word and the confidence one could have in the company.
When asked were there any other problems or breaches by Shell Dempsey just answered "None that we know of".
Dempsey played the innocent bunny instead of a Minister leading a department and representing the people of Ireland in the face of the massive, greedy transnational corporation.
It was very clear from the Primetime piece that this Government and this so called legal system have "JAILED THE 5 MESSANGERS" for bringing to the attention of all what our government should have found out ages ago.

Dempsey was full of waffle as usual. Absolutely nothing new there. Pyle was livid, like a bull ready to explode. Garavan was cool and collected. Fair play to primetime for redeeming some of RTE'S faltering reputation on at least trying to tackle this mammoth issue.
Anyway, the campaign will intensify no doubt and we won't be conned by Shell's new found conscience.
The families of the Rossport 5 did indeed turn their backs on the crew of Prime Time outside the Mayo Council Offices this Wednesday. It is true that we have felt very let down by the Government - sorry, National- media, and were not going to allow editing to contort the truth. However, I have heard nothing but positive feedback from everyone after last nights Prime Time.
It may be too early to say that they are redeemed in the eyes of the people of Erris, but they are certainly on the right path.
Mark Garavan was, as usual, calm yet passionate as Pyle squirmed in his seat. Dempsey was blithering. I was smiling!!
And about time too. It was a fantastic show to watch. It is true that the jailed men were not discussed, but the show was to be about the gas project as a whole and I think it was the right way to go about it. Pyle would of course say it is the men that are keeping themselves in jail and has nothing to do with them. They can not purge their contempt while the injunction stands and it stands at the behest of Shell.
However, I found Pyle and Dempsey to be shaky at best. Does Pyle really think we care if they threaten us with their complete withdrawal? Does he really think we believe that Shell/Statoil/Marathon will leave all that gas and oil for someone else? I think not Mr Pyle!!! And even if they do.... at what loss to the Irish? No Loss At All.
The campaign continues and grows every day. The Rossport 5, what can I say, we all owe them so much.
Shell, Glan Amuigh nó Glan Amach!!
These five men are not in contempt . They are all that there is standing between their families saftey and Shell/Statoil's pursuit of wealth. Natural justice would allow these men to interveen in the construction of an apparatus which could threaten their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Thats the obvious bit.
Furthermore,It is impossible to knowingly disobey an order even if only later proven to be invalid, if it took the judge a while to figure this one out for himself thats his problem.
I think these men should hold the judge in contempt of their rights to be 'secure in their person' under the constitution.
I respect these men for their refusing to humble themselves before this judge and the courts which corruptly denies them their liberty, for standing up for their families welfare.
