He likens the predicted oil shortage to other shortages under capitalism, specifically the food shortage problem and draws attention to the remarkable coincidence that it's always the Third World that causes demand for increased resources!

He also notes that the synchronicity of this sudden acceptance of Peak Oil with the realization from even the most anti-environmental "pragmatists" that something needs to be done to reduce carbon emissions.
