After the success of our Sleeping Bag Appeal Street Seen is now urgently working on arranging a fundraiser to support victims of the Quake...
At least 50,000 people killed...millions have been made homeless and as such it is our duty to aid in any way we can. I have just started working on this and believe we can make a succesfull intervention from Belfast, as the Appeal was a great success, I believe we can use this success on a local level to an international level....
We are going to need as much assistance as possible on this project and hope that anyone who feels they could help this project in any way please get back to me in the first instance...As yet nothing is fixed in stone though first thing Weds morn I will be contacting suitable venues/Artistes to try and run a gig(s) next week...we all have contacts so as such I am appealing for everyone to open up their little black books or whatever they do best so as to raise as much money as we can, as quickly as we can!
The key to the Sleeping bag appeal was its simplicity...if we keep it simple I believe we can make a difference...
I apologise for the disjointness of this appeal but neccessity is a cruel master and we have to act urgently!!
I look forward to hearing from you........Until then...All the very best,

Thank you to everyone who responded to the recent Street Seen Sleeping Bag Appeal,
This was an urgent appeal for basic essential items that we all take for granted, as the weather gets colder and colder there was a pressing need for warm clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and basic foodstuffs to be distributed out to those most in need in the North over the Christmas period and beyond.
The response was phenomenal with over 300 Sleeping bags, Duvets and blankets so far donated ,with 40 large bags of warm clothes and 50 sets of Scarves gloves also collected. There are still more donations to be collected over the next couple of weeks and we welcome any more donations.
All items donated so far have already been distributed to the East Belfast Mission, The Welcome Centre (W Belfast), Home Plus and other outreach groups that work directly with the Homeless Community on our Streets. These groups work 365 days of the year tackling the root causes of homelessness and deserve the highest of praise and support for the work they do in all weathers and times. Street Seen, Belfast’s very own homeless paper, will endeavour to support these groups as best as we can.
Thanks to all who donated to the appeal as we have gathered enough items that should last for the next couple of months. Street Seen intends to keep this campaign going all year round and will be organising collections on the last Friday of every month in Belfast City Centre. We intend to set up similar regular projects in Derry, Dublin and across the country and would welcome any help or suggestions that anyone can offer.
It is a very simple project that addresses a very real growing problem in Ireland directly.
Special thanks to…Anthony Glackin, Terri Hooley and all at Phoenix Records, Davy Carlin, All at the NIAPN, Housing Rights Service, Quality Dry Cleaners, Portadown and all who donated or helped in any way to make the Appeal a success..
Lets try to make a real difference in 2005...
