US Presidential Debate Rules

Section 6(a)
There shall be no audience participation in the September 30 and October 13 debates.

Section 7(f)
"The moderator shall ensure that an equal number of "soft" Bush supporters and "soft" Kerry supporters pose questions to the candidates."

Section 5(f)
The candidates may not ask each other direct questions but may ask rhetorical questions.

Section 5(k)
The candidates shall not address each other with proposed pledges.

Section 9
When a candidate is speaking either in answering a question or making his closing statement, TV coverage will be limited to the candidate speaking. There will be no TV cut-aways to any candidate who is not responding to a question while another candidate is answering a question…

Section 9(b)
No candidate shall be permitted to use risers or any other device to create an impression of elevated height, and no candidates shall be permitted to use chairs, stools, or other seating devices during the debate.
