Come to Ardoyne and put an end to sectarian marches.

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Thursday August 05, 2004 16:40author by P.j.

People from all over Ireland should come to Ardoyne on the 14th of August in order to prevent the blatant sectarian march, which will take place there. Last month the parades commission’s determination was ignored by the PSNI, this time they have not even bothered to prevent the hangers on from coming into the nationalist area knowing full well that the PSNI will just ignore it in anyway.

For those of you who are not aware of what happens on this day here it is. The marchers board buses in their own area to go to Derry. They stop just up the road from Ardoyne, get off the bus, walk through the Nationalist area, re board the busses and then head off to their destination. In order that they be allowed do this nationalists are prevented from leaving their area, large numbers of troops are drafted in and tensions are ratcheted up as a result.
This parade takes place for one reason, to try and cause maximum disturbance in the area. The people who wish to walk through this area are the very same people who prevented young school children going to class for many weeks last year. Who stood five yards away from 4-year-old children and shouted Fenian Bastards in their face. The actions of the PSNI are in stack contrast to the way they allowed these young kids to be terrorised. And let us be clear this has nothing to do with culture; these people are supremacists and fascists. We should approach this matter in the same way we would if the KKK were walking through Galway main St. I call on all people who appose racism and the supremacist ideals of the so called “Loyal Orders” to come to Ardoyne and prevent this march from taking place.
Down with racism – Down with fascism.

so there you go.
I suppose we are all still invited to the Ardonyne just to hang out, tag up the streets and display our truly inspiring collections of dioramas?

as the Maiden festival begins.
( Maiden City Festival begins today, partly funded by the Republic`s Department of Foreign Affairs. The week long festival is due to stage a diverse range of cultural events culminating in the Relief of Derry parade on the 14th.)

Diversity?
Please think of what you are saying.
Think of the people who are part of this march. These people use this march to ram their sectarian hatred down the throats of the nationalists people. I wonder if you would be saying "diversity" if it was a Neo Nazi march against the ethnic minotrity's?
Its not just a march, its a curfew for the people who live their, Its a beating if one of these people try and make a peacefull protest about this march
The same people that are marching are the same people that spat, showed porngraphic pictures and even through a pipe bomb at little girls going to school
The people who march in these parades are not interested in the views of the locals and relish in the fact that the nationalist have to stay away whilst they march
A line has to be drawn now, A community should be able to have a say in what happens. The PSNI are walking a fine line and are giving into the so called stronger of the two sides, once again they fear a loyalist backlash and this is why the march is taking place.
Everyone in Ardoyne,Garvachy Road and other nationalist areas in Northern Ireland hope that one day there will be an equal respect of each others history but these parades are about present day morons getting the chance to get one over on the catholics by marching
I just wish that they had the same hopes in the UUP and the UDP

And accordingly I will do my best to think about what I say.
so- one comment announces the cancellation of the apprentice boys march through the Ardoyne.
And I even put in a "hear hear!" to that.
and seconde comment refers to a discussion thread on a _unionist_ site which is discussing the apprentice boys marching season in Derry, a completely different march with a completely different historical background. I _did_ think as I wrote, and was hoping that comparison would be made between these marches when they are held without the consent of residents (which we oppose) and those which _are held_ with consent of residents (which we deem to be representative of diversity).

AM I the only one to believe that the Orange Order and planned Apprentice Boys parades do not actually go through Ardoyne but pass shops and very few houses that are on the periphery?

Given the number of residents that were "demonstrating" against the presence of these "interlopers", I would be curious to know how many of them actually live in the few houses in Ardoyne that would be affected by the parade.

It seems to me that quite a few people walked a very long way to be aggrieved.

If you or I attacked anyone, with planks, trees, stones, bricks, bottles or petrol bombs (that just happened to be there - well, the tree was anyway), I am confident we would be arrested post haste.

Perhaps Hugh Orde would like to inform the public what arrests have been made in relation to the public order offences committed on the Twelfth of July by these outraged souls.

He says that this parade offends people, THEN he implores people from all over Ireland to come to the Ardoyne
TO BE OFFENDED!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe that you see the difference between one loyalist parade and another, next you will be telling us that the UVF are nicer people than the UDA. Have you ever lived in a comunity that is over run by these morons every summer , backed up by thier brothers , fathers and uncle's in the police. These people in the marches get on the fancy gear in the summer. Fire a fake cannon over derry, do a little play infront of the TV cameras then stop outside every chaple on the way home banging out the sash. Its sickenning and there should be a stop to it. You don't see any nationalist marches on their turf . Do you?
