The Irish Anti-war Movement have called two major protests in Dublin
this
weekend to highlight the continued occupation of Iraq by the US and of
Palestine by Israel.

weekend to highlight the continued occupation of Iraq by the US and of
Palestine by Israel.
On Friday 4th July there will be a demonstration outside the American
ambassador's residence in Phoenix Park at 6.00 p.m. and Saturday 5th
July
will see an 'Independence for All Day' with a celebration of US counter
culture and global opposition to war at Isaac Butt's, Store Street,
Dublin
from 1.00 p.m.
A spokesperson from the Irish Anti-War Movement, said:
"With each passing week it is becoming clearer that all the claims of
the
anti-war movement during the invasion of Iraq are coming true. The US
is
now been seen as the occupying force it is, slaughtering any Iraqis who
dare
oppose the western military presence in their country. America is now
getting bogged down in the type of guerrilla conflict all imperialist
forces
face. It has been revealed that the central impetus for the war,
Iraq's
possession of weapons of mass destruction, have turned out to be
completely
false with Bush and Blair lying and fabricating evidence".
"Thousands of Iraqi civilians have been killed and millions are now on
the
verge of starvation and are without electricity and clean running
water.
The United States has also refused to allow the United Nations any
significant role in the re-building of Iraq. The country is descending
into
anarchy, regional warlords and tribal leaders have assumed control, and
the
entire population are at risk from disease and hunger".
"The US is now installing its own regime to run Iraq which will run the
country to suit the economic interests of western corporations, rather
than
allow the Iraqi people to choose their own government. Oil
multi-nationals
have already taken over the oilfields and the contracts for the
reconstruction of Iraq have gone to Halliburton and Becthel.
Vice-President
Dick Cheney is former CEO of Halliburton and is still on the payroll,
and
Becthel was one of the biggest financial contributors to George Bush's
election campaign".
"America wants to reshape the Middle East to suit their economic
interests.
They have assumed the right to decide who should represent the
Palestinian
people and allow Israel to carry out a campaign of ethnic cleansing.
On the
4th of July the US celebrates its independence, yet it denies
independence
and democracy to the people of Iraq and Palestine".

The US led War on Iraq was fought on the basis of lies. We were told that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and that he was a threat to the world. Yet no WMD have been found and Saddam was unable even to defend his own regime. Meanwhile, over 5000 Iraqi civilians were murdered as a result of Bush’s war. Millions in Iraq now face starvation and disease because the country’s infrastructure was destroyed by US/UK bombing.
Because they have found no WMD the US are now claiming that the war was fought to liberate Iraq from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. This is also a lie.
Saddam was certainly a tyrant. But it was the US who helped him to become one by arming and supporting him. Now Saddam’s tyranny has been replaced by a brutal US led military occupation—not democracy or liberation.
The US is refusing to allow the people of Iraq to choose their own government. Instead they are installing a puppet government of US appointees.
US troops are attacking and killing protesters on a daily basis who are calling for democracy and an end to the US occupation.
While Iraq’s health system and public services have collapsed the US has secured control of all Iraq’s oilfields and put them under the control of a US multinational company. The US is now also threatening other neighbouring countries in the region, particularly Iran.
The real reason for this war was to secure US control of oil and the Middle East region.
The US want to use their military power to re-shape the Middle East in their interests. They have even assumed the right to decide who should represent the Palestinian people. Meanwhile they continue to allow Israel to stamp on the most basic rights of Palestinians.
By allowing Shannon to be used by the US military the Irish government have collaborated with a criminal attack on the people of Iraq and the deception of the Irish public.
On the Fourth of July the US will celebrate its independence from the British Empire. Yet it denies independence and democracy to the people of Iraq and Palestine. The IAWM has called a protest on Friday July 4th at the US ambassador’s residence in the Phoenix Park, Dublin at 6pm. The protest will call for an end to the occupation of Iraq and Palestine. We will also be calling for end to the use of Shannon by the US military. Join us on this important protest.
The protest will continue with Independence for All Day on Saturday July 5th in Isaac Butt’s, Store St., Dublin 1. Join us from 1 to 7pm for a celebration of US counter culture.

Today the IAWM politburo has called a weekend of action against the occupation of Iraq and Palestine due to possible popular dissent within our own ranks.
This action will involve a massive demonstration, which will see hundreds (official garda estimate please dont hold the politburo responsible for small figures) converge outside the American ambassador's residence in Phoenix Park at 6.00 p.m. on July 4th.
SWP and SP members are asked to arrive half and hour early for roll call and immediate dispensing of THE PAPER.
Sinn Fein are asked to arrive an hour early to give all the kids who havent a fucking clue a placard with some nationalist crap on it so as to make the six o clock news.
The next day so as to keep the revolutionary/liberal mood alive will see an 'Independence for All Day' with a celebration of US counter culture and global opposition to war at Isaac Butt's, Store Street, Dublin
from 1.00 p.m.
No doupt more dispensing of GOODS will occur.

Anyway, there are pleny of alternatives if you look hard enough my brick headed friend, but personally i dont like 16 year old kids being used by party hacks as dogs on leashes to sell papers to their friends.
I think fair play to the organisers, as long as its sunny & someone brings a frizbee. Anyway where is the Ambassadors residence, I know where the zoo is! I know the SWP comrades are not normally thoughtless, but the term 'UK' is offensive to a lot of people. It refers to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Now unless you accept the legitamacy of this you should not use the term.

The Ambassadors residence is up in the middle of the Park at the roundabout with the statue of the Phoenix on it. The papal cross is near it. If your using public transport get the 37 up Blackhorse avenue and get off at the 'Hole in the Wall' pub. Walk through the footgate there and along the road perpendicular to the wall. It's about a 5 minute walk.
