Ireland Institute, Pearse St. Dublin 2
A public meeting on the ongoing internment of Marian Price will be held on Saturday 16 June at the Ireland Institute, Pearse Street, Dublin 2 ag 2.30 p.m. The main speakers are Human Rights Activist Monsignor Raymond Murray, Independent TD Maureen O'Sullivan, Solicitor Michael Finucane and Jerry McGlinchey, Marian's Husband. Íte Ní Chionnaithe will chair the meeting.
Marian Price had previously served a long jail sentence in England and the north of Ireland and was released and pardoned due to ill health after being force-fed 400 times in England during the early 1970s. She was re-arrested in May 2011 by order of Owen Patterson, British Secretary of State, who claimed to revoke her licence. The PPS have stated that the pardon has been shredded.
For the whole duration of her detention Marian has been held in solitary confinement in breach of human rights directives. In addition she was the only woman in a male prison in Maghaberry Jail and is now once again in solitary confinement in the hospital wing of Hydebank Prison, Belfast, where she remains extremely ill.
As a matter of urgency we call for the immediate release of Marian Price on humanitarian grounds.
