Cogús Prisoners to Begin 24 Hour Fast in Maghaberry Gaol

REPUBLICAN NETWORK FOR UNITY (RNU) Chairperson/Cathaoirleach, CARL REILLY has announced that Cogús Prisoners in Roe House, Maghaberry Gaol will begin a 24 Hour Fast at 8am January 23rd, 2012 in protest at the refusal by the North's Prison Service to allow fellow POW, Damien McKenna to attend his Father's funeral last week.

Mr. Reilly continued; 'It was a disgrace that Damien was refused to attend his Father's funeral and the Cogús Prisoners will embark on 24 Hour Fast to demonstrate their opposition to this crass decison and show solidarity with their comrade, Damien'.

The RNU Chairperson concluded; 'Yet again, Political Prisoners in Maghaberry have to resort to extreme measures to protest against unjust practises and conditions. We ask everyone concerned with human rights to support the Prisoners demands and restore their dignity. The fast by Cogús POWs' will end on January 24rd, 2012'.
